Shared Decision Making helps patients get treatment that’s right for them.
Fully-informed patients are happier with their care and tend to choose less invasive treatments. Shared Decision Making consists of three elements:
1) A Shared Decision Making Aid provides unbiased, evidence-based information about treatment options and helps the patient evaluate potential risks and benefits.
2) Coaching from a neutral health professional. A specially trained coach helps the patient clarify questions and concerns to discuss with their doctor.
Over more than a decade of field experience, Health Dialog has developed specialized training and online tools for our nurse coaches who play this role – and we’ve trained others, too.
3) An informed discussion with the treating physician. Shared Decision Making results in treatment choices that both patient and provider rate as better decisions.
